LAPORTE COUNTY, Ind. – Officials confirmed Friday morning the identities of the victims in Thursday’s massive pileup on I-94.
The two people from Grand Rapids who were killed are Thomas Wolma, 67, and his wife, Marilyn, 65, it was revealed at a Friday morning news conference. WLS-TV reports that the couple was heading back to Grand Rapids after caring for a loved one in Wisconsin.
A third man and his dog were also killed.
The crash happened on eastbound I-94 near mile marker 33 from US 421 to US 35. Crews were still working to clear all the debris Friday morning.
There are reports that anywhere from 30 to 46 vehicles were involved, including some 15 semi trucks. More than 20 people suffered injuries. The bad weather conditions are said to have played a role in the crash, but the circumstances remain under investigation.
