Cold Weather Causing Pipes to Freeze Around West Michigan

HASTINGS, Mich.- Plumbing companies are already seeing issues with pipes bursting as the temperatures drop during this dangerous winter weather.

Experts say this is not the time to conserve energy by turning your heat down when you leave the house.  They recommend keeping heat at 65 to 70 degrees and keeping all doors in your house open.

They also recommend letting faucets drip during the extreme cold temperatures to prevent a freeze.

If your pipes do freeze, under no circumstances should you use a blow torch in attempts to thaw them.  Experts say they see it done frequently and it results in a house fire.  If your pipes do freeze they recommend using a hair dryer to thaw them or a box fan.
