Last Burst of Lake-Effect, But More Snow This Weekend

Posted

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — One more round of enhanced lake-effect snow showers will continue through much of the daytime Thursday before West Michigan receives a well-deserved break.

An upper-level disturbance generated a flare-up of snow shower activity after 7:00 A.M. that will affect Kent, Ottawa, and Muskegon counties in particular through midday.  Additional accumulations during the daytime will generally stay around one to two inches.  Areas along and south of I-94 will stay relatively snow-free.

Snow will diminish during the afternoon and evening Thursday, with only a few flurries or light snow showers lingering into Thursday night and Friday.  Still, difficult travel conditions will be likely as temperatures will not climb much above 20° through about midday Friday.

The break Friday should allow for some improvement on the roads, but it will be short-lived as a storm system brings widespread snow back to West Michigan Friday night and Saturday.  That system currently appears to bring about one to three inches of new snow, although those numbers are subject to change as the area of low pressure approaches and passes to the southeast of the state.

Intermittent snow and below-average temperatures will continue well beyond the scope of the 7 Day Forecast; you can find that as well as interactive radar on the Weather page.
