(CNN) — A helicopter crashed into the roof of a pub late Friday in the Scottish city of Glasgow, local officials tweeted.
“Terrible here in Glasgow,” Jim Murphy, a member of Parliament, tweeted.
Pictures posted to social media showed a chaotic scene, including firefighters rushing into the one-story building. They showed the signs for The Clutha, a bar and live music venue in Glasgow, according to the pub’s Facebook page.
It was not immediately clear if anyone in the helicopter, in the pub or elsewhere on the ground was killed or injured.
The Twitter feed of the Police Roll of Honour Trust — a group dedicated to remembering deceased police officers — indicated that it was a police helicopter that crashed, though it wasn’t immediately known why or what it was doing at the time. Images posted online showed a police insignia on the fallen aircraft.
The Clutha’s Facebook pagecontained numerous posts from people concerned about the incident.
“Stay with it everybody, now is the time to think of others,” wrote one person. “People need help.”
British Prime Minister David Cameron also tweeted about the situation.
“My thoughts are with everyone affected by the helicopter crash in Glasgow — and the emergency services working tonight,” he said.
