Getting A Protection Dog

Posted

West Mich.-  We see it in movies and on TV: a burglar turned away from a targeted house by a barking dog.

But does it happen like that in real life?

Sometimes.

Randy Adams is a retired K-9 officer who has trained dogs for years. He says never in his police career did he take a report from a burglary or assault where the person had a large dog in the home.

But that doesn’t mean any dog can protect you and your family. Adams is quick to point out that there are plenty of large-breed dogs who are couch potatoes, and to be sure your dog will keep you safe, it needs to be a “protection dog”. These are descendents of farm and working dogs that are bred and trained, to protect their owners.
