DAYTONA BEACH, FL.- The LPGA annouced on Friday that is it coming back to Grand Rapids for the inaugural Meijer LPGA Classic, which will be held August 7-10, 2014 at Blythefield Country Club.
The Meijer LPGA Classic will host a field of 144 players taking on 72 holes of stroke play golf over four days of competition. The purse for the tournament is is 1.5 million dollars. This tournament is the LPGA’s first stop in Michigan since 2000 when the Oldsmobile Classic was held in East Lansing. This is also the latest major golf event in Michigan since the 2009 Buick Open in Grand Blanc.
This is the first time the LPGA has been to Grand Rapids for a tournament, But the Blythfield County Club has hosted professional golf tournaments in the past including the 1953 Western Open and the 1961 Western Open.
