GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Steve Elliston has been driving big rigs for 22 years. He`s a second generation truck driver, and he said that he lives by the advice his father gave him when he first sat behind the wheel.
“Always be careful around other vehicles because it’s somebody’s grandmother in that car, or that’s somebody’s son or daughter in that car. That’s what keeps me grounded from not getting ticked off at other vehicles on the road,” said Elliston.
Elliston said that most drivers are simply unaware of the blind-spots truck drivers have, and don’t understand the dangers of following too closely.
Law enforcement positioned their vehicles in places that are blind-spots for semi drivers at Walmart on Alpine Saturday afternoon. Over the next two weeks, they will be ticketing drivers who follow too close in Kent and Ottawa counties.
