Blitz Preview Week 9: OK Black Championship

Posted

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich — It all comes down to this.  Reeths-Puffer (7-1) and Muskegon (7-1) meeting on the final night of the regular season for all the marbles in the OK Black.

The Rockets are in search of their 1st conference title since winning the Seaway back in 1997, the Big Reds came up 1 point short of the OK Black title when they lost a heartbreaker to Zeeland East in week 9 last season.  “It’s game 9 like last year, a game we didn’t finish, our motto all year is to play 14 and finish.  We played the 9 last year and didn’t finish the championship game and then played the 5 and didn’t finish the championship game so our kids have been a little hungry for that” Muskegon head coach Shane Fairfield said.

Reeths-Puffer has got it done this year thanks in large part to a big, veteran offensive line and some talented running backs led by Julian Munday.  Muskegon counters with a defense that has yet to allow a point in 3 home games this season.  “We’re going to have to do some different things to pull out a win, we know that, but we’ve had to do that before, everybody talks about our ground game and how we’ve been able to grind out some opponents, sure we’d love to be able to do that but we’ve had to go other places and do different things to pull out the big ones and we’re definitely going to have to do that against Muskegon” Reeths-Puffer head coach Kyle Jewett said.

In the Blitz Battle, Rockford looks for the outright OK Red championship when they host East Kentwood.  The Falcons can earn a share of the title with a win.  East Kentwood has not won a conference title since 2003.
