PENNFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich- One man is in the Calhoun County Jail after an eight hour standoff with sheriff deputies Saturday night.
According to the Calhoun County Sheriffs Department, a 63-year-old man barricaded himself in his home after he assaulted his wife earlier in the night. Sheriff Deputies were called after the man’s wife was able to escape the man after going to get medication at a local store.
The victim told deputies that he had ‘threatened to kill her” after firing rounds off inside the home before leaving to get medication. On the way back to the home, the victim got out of the vehicle and ran to a service station yelling “call 911.”
The suspect then followed the victim into the service station waving a handgun in the air. The suspect also told the victim that if she contacted the police he would shoot himself. The suspect then fled the service station to his home.
When Deputies arrived at the home in the 19000 block of Gorsline Rd. the suspect refused to come out and the Michigan State Police Swat Team was called in. After an eight hour standoff, the suspect came out of the house by his own will and was taken into custody.
The suspect is in the Calhoun County Jail awaiting arraignment.
