GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.- Hundreds of people let their bras hang out in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Saturday.

But, it’s not exactly what you might think.  Bras with ribbons, rhinestones and bows were hung above the Gillett Pedestrian Bridge downtown near Ah-Nab-Awen Park.

Bras Across the Grand is a visual reminder for women to put their health first in the fight against breast cancer.

There was a bra decorating contest, silent auction and breast cancer survivor pampering station at this 4th annual event.

“Breast cancer and cancer in general can be a scary thing and so I think that this allows us an opportunity to come out, have a good time and for people to still to come into a comfortable environment and learn about breast cancer and cancer in general and prevention,” Jaime Counterman of the American Cancer Society said.

There was also a survivor celebration and photo in front of the giant bra, celebrating the survivors as a group.
