ROCKFORD, Mich. — The Kent County Sheriff’s department held an open house Wednesday evening in Rockford to celebrate a new facility for the Kent County’s Sheriff’s Mounted Unit.  The training center features an arena, classrooms, and room for all 10 of their horses.

The concept for the new facility started back in 2007 and has already gone through two different phases of planning and construction. There is still one more phase left to be built, which includes the construction of office space, a locker room, and restrooms.

The Sheriff’s Mounted Unit  is typically used for parades and different summer events but also helps with education and job training for inmates.
