IRVING TOWNSHIP, Mich- When his home on Hayes Road in Irving Township was hit by lightning Mike Butler had no way of knowing just how bad it was…a few minutes later he found out when his Golden retriever and Black Lab woke him from his sleep.
It gave Butler, whose wife was not at home, just enough time to call 911 and get some personal items out of the house before it all went up in flames. Multiple units were called to the scene but the house will be a total loss.
Sue Hayes lives across the street and heard the strike. ” I just heard this loud bang and thought wow that was lightning and it hit pretty close and then I looked outside and I didn’t see anything and within a half an hour I saw the flashers and though oh man something is wrong.”
Crews remained on the scene for a number of hours putting out hot spots.
