77-Year Old Grand Rapids Woman Assaulted in Her Home

GRAND RAPIDS,Mich. — According to the Grand Rapids Police Department On Thursday September 19 around  9:00  a.m. Police responded to a house in the 1100 block of Worden on the report of an assault. Upon arrival, the victim, a 77-year old resident, told officers she was assaulted inside her house earlier in the morning.

The victim told officers that on Wednesday, September 18, 2013, at 4:00p.mm she went to the Family Dollar Store at 1121 Michigan Ave. NE, and purchased some groceries.  After purchasing the groceries, the victim went to her house on Worden St.  The victim said that a white male asked her if she needed help getting her groceries in the house. The victim declined the assistance and proceeded into her house.

The victim indicated she went to sleep after midnight. At approximately 2:00 a.m., this morning the  victim  awoke  as  she  was  being  assaulted  by  an unknown suspect.  The  victim  was severely beaten.  The victim called police when she regained consciousness this morning.

The victim was transported to an area hospital for treatment.

Police would  like to identify and speak to the white male seen in front of  the victim’s home.
