IONIA, Mich. — A road rage incident in Ionia led to a shootout that killed two people Wednesday, according to Ionia Public Safety.
A 43-year-old Ionia man and another 56-year-old man died from their injuries after being transported to a local hospital.
Both victims had concealed weapons permits, said police.
The shootout happened around 6:53 p.m. at the Wonder Wand Car Wash at the corner of Nash and Steele near M-66 in Ionia. One man was driving a gold Ford Taurus, the other driving a PT cruiser. At the scene, the back window of the PT Cruiser was shot out.
One witness passing the scene around 7 a.m. said he saw two people on the ground. After the men were taken to the hospital, a handgun could still be seen inside the crime scene perimeter as police investigated. Others said they heard four shots fired.
A man ran from a nearby laundromat and applied CPR to one of the victims, Allen Daggett told FOX 17.
