HOLLAND, Mich.-  It has become a right of passage for Hope college Freshman, get to campus get ready for classes and for the 13th year now spend the Saturday before labor day working in the community. They are mostly first year kids who set down the books and pick up things like shovels and rakes, to help serve in the community where they will spend the school year.

One of the projects was at the 14th street Christian reformed church where a crew of 6 spent the day doing some landscaping and removing old shrubs in order to get ready for a new construction project. Bill Ryckbost is a member of the church and was working alongside the kids, he says he is thankful for their help.

“We are very happy that they come and help us work on a project here that benefits our church and the community in general, so it ids a great thing in general to see them out here exercising their potential” Today that potential involved paying it forward.
