PORTLAND, Mich.- Richard Lawless spent 39 years working at Oldsmobile and received a service ring as a token of appreciation for his years of service.
Since retiring from Oldsmobile, he has spent his days volunteering at St. Patrick’s Church and School, taking care of their grounds and doing other maintenance as needed. One day while working on the grounds in the summer of 2012, he lost the ring. Even after searches by Lawless and his granddaughter with metal detectors, the search came up short.
After forgetting about the ring, his granddaughter was talking with a friend when she happened to mention it. The friend knew someone who had another 30 year service ring and was willing to sell it. Lawless’ granddaughter bought the ring and surprised him at a party with family members around.
