PENNFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A vacant house suffered heavy damage in a fire early Thursday morning, and investigators are treating it as suspicious.
At around 3:30 a.m., a neighbor saw the fire at 15 Eaton Street in Calhoun County’s Pennfield Township. When crews arrived, the flames were out of control, and firefighters had to take a defensive approach. Three different departments ended up responding.
Officials at the Pennfield Township Fire Department say the home was abandoned. They are working to determine a cause, but they have reason to believe it was suspicious in nature.
There were no injuries reported at the scene.
