GAINES TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A man was taken into custody by the Kent County Sheriff’s Department after allegedly stabbing his ex-girlfriend in the neck after they broke up Monday, July 8.

Shawn Richards is currently in Kent County Jail on a $1 million bond for the charges of assault with intent to murder and domestic violence.  According to his ex-girlfriend, he dragged her hair into a house on Piedmont Drive SE, threw her to the floor and began assaulting her.  She said he then pulled out a knife and threatened to kill her before stabbing her once in the neck.

According to a press release, Richards then tried to convince the girl to report that she had fallen down the stairs and stabbed herself when he drove her to the hospital.  He was taken into custody by deputies when he returned to the hospital.
