Deputies Respond To Assault; Instead Find Drugs And Illegal Weapons

CALHOUN COUNTY, Mich. – Deputies responded to a felonious assault Friday night after a man was hit in the head with a metal object. Instead, they found 6 marijuana plants and three illegal firearms.

According to the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department, it happened around 9:30 p.m. in the 23000 block of 15 Mile in Convis Township. Deputies obtained a search warrant for the residence where the assault occurred and found that the 20-year-old male suspect was not only carrying the metal weapon used to hit the 20-year-old man, but was holding marijuana and illegal weapons.

The 20-year-old Vermontville man was transported to Hayes Green Beach Hospital for his head injuries.

No arrests have been made yet. Deputies are currently seeking warrants for the 20-year-old man for charges in felonious assault, manufacturing and delivering marijuana, possession of a firearm, and several other firearm charges.

The incident remains under investigation.
