Evacuated Residents in Plainwell Return Home After Chemical Fire

Explosion 4PLAINWELL, Mich. — A little after 9 p.m. Monday, Allegan County Central Dispatch announced that everyone evacuated during the chemical fire at Drug & Laboratory Disposal Inc. has returned back to their homes.

A little after 3:30 p.m. on Monday, witnesses say they heard three to four explosions from the disposal location at 331 Broad St.  Emergency responders, including several in HazMat suits, arrived at the area and began evacuating everyone within a quarter mile northeast of the building.

According to Drug & Laboratory Disposal President Brent Walter, none of the 53 employees were injured during the fire.
