Muskegon Church Leader Faces CSC Charges Spanning 40 Years

MUSKEGON, Mich. — A 76-year-old Muskegon church leader was charged with three felonies for alleged criminal sexual conduct that spans over 40 years, according to Muskegon County Chief Assistant Prosecutor Tim Maat.

Carlton Lindberg Johnson, a registered church leader at Faith Congregational Church of God in Christ in Muskegon’s Jackson Hill Neighborhood, is accused of engaging in first and second-degree criminal sexual conduct with multiple female victims in that time period.

Of the the two counts that allege first-degree CSC, one involves a child under 13 years old, and the other involves a child between 13 and 16 years old.  The second-degree charge also involves a child under 13 years of age.

Johnson allegedly committed the crimes in several locations, including a church in Muskegon and his home.

According to Maat, detectives from the Muskegon Police Department have been investigating Johnson for several months after one of the victims came forward.  They have since interviewed dozens of witnesses.  Johnson

Johnson is currently being held in the Muskegon County Jail on $300,000 bail.
