KENTWOOD, Mich. — Terry Blessing was horrified at what she saw unfold right in front of her on East Paris Avenue near Lake Drive.
Police said a Chevy Silverado collided with a GMC Yukon in front of East Hills Fitness and Athletic Club on East Paris Avenue.
Blessing saw the aftermath. She said a female passerby stopped to help the 76-year-old driver of the Silverado.
“And the woman was right in front of the truck, holding her hands up like ‘Stop, stop,’ and the truck accelerated and just hit her,” Blessing said.
Blessing said the elderly driver hit the woman at least three times.
“I seen the woman [sic],” Blessing recalled. “Her eyes were open. She wasn’t making any kind of sound. She didn’t seem like she was there.”
Blessing tried to console the victim.
Police said the victim, who they call a Good Samaritan, died at the scene from her injuries.
Karl Blessing, Terry’s son, said the elderly driver looked frantic.
Witnesses said a nearby tow truck pulled in front of the Silverado, stopping it from taking off.
“I guess the tow truck guy was just trying to get her out of the truck, calm her down, figure out what the heck’s going on.”
The 31-year-old driver of the Yukon was fine. Police said the elderly driver was taken to a hospital and evaluated. There’s no word yet if any charges will be filed.
