LAKE CITY, Mich — More than 150 dogs were rescued from a puppy mill in northern Michigan on Thursday.

The Michigan Humane Society was one of the organizations that helped out, along with the Missaukee County Sheriff’s Office, Roscommon County Animal Shelter, the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and more.

The dogs are mostly Jack Russell Terriers and Shiba Inus. Many didn’t have access to clean drinking water, nor adequate protection from the outside elements.

Some of the dogs were taken to a nearby shelter, and Friday the Michigan Humane Society will take around 20 more to one of their centers on the state’s east side.
