5.2 Magnitude Earthquake Felt in West Michigan

SHAWVILLE, QUEBEC – A 5.2 magnitude earthquake jolted parts of Quebec and Ontario Friday morning and could be felt all the way in West Michigan.

It occurred at 9:43 a.m. in Shawville, which is just outside Ottawa, Ont.

FOX 17 viewers said they could feel buildings shake in the Grand Rapids area. Gabrielle Warner of MassMutual MidMichigan was sitting at her desk when she felt something. Warner says at first she thought a large truck drove by but her office building sits far from the road. Reports came in from all over West Michigan, FOX 17 viewers took to Facebook to tell us they felt it in Holland, Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo.

Earthquakes Canadareports a 5.2 M with an epicenter 11 miles NE of Shawville, Quebec and 48 miles from Ottawa, Ontario. The quake was felt in nearby Toronto and Montreal. An aftershock of 4.1 M occurred 10 minutes after the initial quake.
