KENT COUNTY, Mich. – “We envision a world where every girl knows and activates her limitless potential and is free to boldly pursue her dreams”.
The Girls on The Run 5k mission statement tries to encourage girls to challenge themselves and celebrate their own achievements.
The race begins on May 18 at East Kentwood High School. Over 345 liaisons and coaches will be mentoring young girls in preparation for the race, with more than 2,000 girls participating this year alone. The program began in 2003 and grew from only one team to 140 teams in 72 different schools.
“Girls on the Run International” public speaker Molly Barker will also be speaking at several different schools starting Thursday, motivating young girls with stories focusing on perception around beauty, gender, and power.
The event is also looking for volunteers for water stations, course marshals, security, refreshments, and set-up on Saturday morning.
