GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — 18-Year-Old Royale Runyon has been charged in the shooting death of his brother Madhi Hayes. Runyon has been charged with Open Murder and Felony Firearms with no bond. He is scheduled to be back in court on May 24th.
Hayes was a 20-year-old member of the Army and was found shot to death in an alley south of Worden St and east of Henry Ave. at 3:00am on December 20th, 2012.
The day after Hayes’ death, Runyon was arrested on an unrelated robbery charge.
Police say it took awhile to connect him to the crime even though he was considered a suspect from the beginning.
According to an affidavit an investigation revealed that Royale was supposed to meet his brother in the alley for money. The investigation also revealed that Royale possessed the handgun, both before Mahdis death and immediately after that was used to kill Mahdi.
