LILLEY, Mich. – The investigation into a double murder suicide continues to unfold in Newaygo County Thursday morning, hours after a father killed his wife and son, then took his own life.
FOX 17 was the first to find out Charles Hoover was found dead from a self inflicted gunshot wound around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday. This comes after an eight hour standoff with the Newaygo County Sheriff’s Department and Michigan State Police.
Earlier Wednesday police received a 911 call from inside Hoover’s home. It’s believed it was one of the victims with a final plea for help. Upon arrival, they found Hoover’s wife Marcia and son Isaac shot dead.
That’s when the standoff began. All cars registered to the couple were at the home, leading police to believe Hoover was still at the residence. It was too dangerous for officers to attempt to enter the home so a Michigan State Police robot was sent onto the property that has four separate buildings. That robot located the body of Hoover.
Fox 17 also spoke with neighbors who say Hoover was strange. They say “He was terrified that the world was gonna end but he was confident that he’d be okay because his relationship with God and all the food he had stored up.” Police tell us Hoover had thousands of cans of food stocked up.
The case is now being treated as a double murder suicide.
