MUSKEGON , Mich. — A woman was killed in a freak accident Wednesday, when her own vehicle ran her over, police said.

Olive Maria Elredge, 62, died from massive internal injuries. The incident took place around 6 p.m. in the rear parking lot of the Church of Latter Day Saints, 1725 West Giles Road in Muskegon.

Prior to the accident, Elredge was attending a craft show at the church before she went to her Dodge Durango, according to Muskegon County Sheriff Dean Roesler.

“She went to get out seconds later and the vehicle started rolling backwards”, an eyewitness said.

Roesler reported that the Durango started rolling backwards with the car door open, which knocked Elredge to the ground.

The front tire then ran over the entire length of her body. “The vehicle continued in a circular pattern and was coming back toward the victim, who was disabled.”

The witness stopped the vehicle before it hit her again and heard Elredge say she had trouble seeing.

Roesler reported that at the time of the emergency call, Elredge was bleeding from the face and breathing.

She was later examined by medical personnel, but was unable to regain consciousness.
