UPDATE: Overnight Crash, Stabbing In Grand Rapids Were Related

Posted

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich — Police are investigating an overnight stabbing on the southeast side of Grand Rapids, where one man was critically hurt.

Around 9:30 p.m., a man in the 900 block of Jefferson Ave SE reported that he was stabbed. Moments later, police received another call about a car crash. They found a vehicle that had hit a church sign at Jefferson and Highland SE. “The two occupants of this vehicle were found to have injuries related to an assault, not a motor vehicle crash,” according to a press release.

The driver of that vehicle was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital, while the passenger was taken to Butterworth Hospital with a possibly life-threatening stab wound. Surgery began on him Wednesday morning.

Grand Rapids Police determined that both incidents are connected.

They did retrieve the weapon used in the stabbing, but the investigation continues.
