GOBLES, Mich– There isn’t much time left to spend on the slopes.
“Years like this, where we have a lot snow it makes it really fun. We only have a few more weeks of winter and it’s fun to be out playing in the snow when it’s not so melted,” Luke Schrab, manager of terrain park said.
All this weekend Timber Ridge Ski Area held their annual Winter Fest event, celebrating everything winter sports have to offer. The event included everything from ice sculpting to different ski and snowboard competitions.
“It’s fantastic, I think it’s good to show peoples skills and how they do things,” Dar Comfort, skier said.
As part of the event, they had a slope competition for kids 14 years old and younger. Dar Comfort, 13, and has been skiing for the last 2 years. He says it’s always sad when the season starts to come to an end.
“I saw it on the website and I just felt like it would be good for me, because I’ve never done one like this before. I just decided to try it,” Comfort said.
Mangers for the area say this has been an amazing season for the ski area, thanks to some help from Mother Nature.
“With all the lake effect snow we’ve had, we have a great base and really good conditions. In fact some of our life longer skiers have said this is the best year they’ve ever seen in 52 years of skiing,” Schrab said.
But all good things must come to an end.
“When you have a good season, you never want to see it finish. But that’s kind of how skiing goes,” Schrab said.
