Van Buren Crash Leads To 2 Arrests On Multiple Charges

Posted

VAN BUREN COUNTY, Mich. — A one-vehicle crash led to two women being arrested for drunken driving and several warrants Saturday morning.

At 5:19 a.m. Saturday, the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a one-car property damage crash on M-43 near the Wolf Lake Fish Hatchery in Almena Township.  The accident was called in by a tow truck driver who was called directly by the vehicle’s occupants.

The two truck driver reported that a passenger stated that she had warrants for her arrest and that all the occupants appeared intoxicated.

Upon arriving at the scene, deputies said it appeared that a 200 Pontiac Grand Prix had been eastbound on M-43 when the driver lost control and crashed into a ditch on the north side of the roadway.

The driver — a 20-year-old Kalamazoo area woman — was found to be intoxicated and a passenger — Vivian Lee, 21, of the Kalamazoo area — was discovered to have two contempt of court warrants for her arrest.

Both women were arrested. The driver took a breath test and tested at .11, was cited for operating while intoxicated and was taken to the Van Buren County Jail. Her name is being withheld pending arraignment in court Monday. Lee was arrested for contempt of court warrants from both Kalamazoo and Coldwater, and was turned over to a Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety officer.

The car sustained severe front end damage in the crash.

The incident remains under investigation by the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office.
