IONIA COUNTY, Mich. — One person died and two were injured in a two-vehicle crash just after midnight.
At 12:10 a.m. Saturday, the Ionia County Sheriff’s Office responded to a two-vehicle accident on eastbound Interstate 96 near Kent Street. The investigation revealed that a Ford F150 truck driven by a 57-year-old Portland man was eastbound when it left the roadway, struck a guardrail and came to a rest on its roof in the eastbound travel lanes.
A Ford Escape driven by a 55-year-old Grand Rapids man then struck the Ford F150.
The driver of the Ford F150 was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Ford Escape driver was transported to Sparrow Hospital where he was listed in stable condition later Saturday. A 56-year-old female passenger in the Escape was transported to Sparrow Hospital where she was listed in critical condition later Saturday.
All three were wearing safety belts.
The names of the accident victims have not been released until relatives are notified.
It has not been determined if alcohol was involved or if there were other factors contributing to the crash, which remains under investigation by the Ionia County Sheriff’s Office.
