EAST LANSING, Mich. — It was hyped as the biggest matchup in the 170-game history of the Michigan-Michigan State rivalry. Instead it turned out to be a big blowout.
Michigan State routed Michigan 75-52 in front of a raucous Breslin Center crowd. Gary Harris led the Spartans with 17 while Derrick Nix added 14. Keith Appling, 11, and Branden Dawson, 10, both scored in double figures as well.
Michigan was led by Trey Burke who had a game-high 18 points on 7 of 11 shooting from the field. Nik Stauskus added 10. They were the only two Wolverines to score in double figures as Michigan was held to a season-low 52 points.
With the win, Michigan State improves to 10-2 in Big Ten play while Michigan now has an 8-4 conference record.
