KENT COUNTY, Mich.–A  small gathering will be held at St. Matthew Lutheran Church off Cascade Road SE on Tuesday evening to remember a Forest Hills student who disappeared 32 years ago.

It was Feb. 5, 1981 when 14-year-old Deanie Peters went missing after attending her brother’s wrestling match at Forest Hills Central Middle School. Deanie told her mother she was going to the restroom and was never seen again.

The Kent Metro Cold Case Team took on the case in March of 2008 and has conducted multiple  interviews in several states.

In 2009, new leads led detectives to dig up the grounds surrounding a Lowell-area schoolhouse for Deanie’s remains, but the search turned  up to be nothing.

There is still a $25,000 reward for information about Deanie Peters, as well as details about the days leading up to her disappearance.

Many, including Deanie’s parents, friends, and investigators, are still hoping to get closure on the case that has haunted them for so long.

The remembrance gathering starts at 5 p.m.
