KALAMAZOO COUNTY, Mich. – Officials are investigating a fire that occurred in Texas Township early Wednesday morning.

Texas Township Fire Chief, Mike Corfman told FOX 17 News that the fire began at about 3:48 a.m., at 5022 Whippoorwill.

According to Corfman, two children and two adults were asleep in the basement of the home, when a noise coming from upstairs awakened them. That’s when they noticed flames surrounding the outside of the home.

The Texas Township Fire Department, Portage Fire Department and South Kalamazoo County Fire Authority assisted in the fire.

After about 45 minutes, crews were able to gain control of the blaze.

Corfman said most of the damage was done to the garage. The front of the home and the attic were also damaged.

FOX 17 News was told the family had recently moved into the home.

No one was injured in the incident.
