GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The City of Grand Rapids to launch a second phase of myGRcitypoints.com that rewards residents for volunteering.
The second phase allows people to earn points by volunteering at approved nonprofit events.
The new phase includes a partnership with the Heart of West Michigan United Way.
It came about after a successful launch of myGRcitypoints where Grand Rapids residents recycled to earn points redeemable for discounts at locally-owned businesses.
The original phase helped increase recycling by 80 percent.
City staff will hold a web demonstration Tuesday Jan. 22 at 11:00 a.m at Grand Rapids City Hall in Room 408 on the volunteer phase.
Mayor George Heartwell, City Manager Greg Sundstrom and Heart of West Michigan United Way CEO Maureen Noe are all expected to make formal remarks.
The city will also announce a campaign that will benefit three city parks.
