Homeowner Owner Shot During Armed Robbery, Suspects At Large

KALAMAZOO, Mich.- A 25 –year-old man from Kalamazoo is shot during a robbery.

Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety officers said the man was trying to leave his home on Chelten Avenue Friday night, when he was confronted by a man armed with a handgun.

They said the victim reached for suspect’s gun and during a struggle the victim was shot in the stomach. The victim was still able to overpower the suspect to disarm him.

Officials said a second armed suspect was outside with the victim’s girlfriend, 4-year-old son, and 18-year-old nephew. The family was in a vehicle. They said the suspect demanded money but got distracted, possibly when he heard the gunshots. At that point, the family managed to escape.

Investigators said the second armed suspect then stopped the victim who was trying to leave the house. They said the suspect ordered the victim to the ground and physically assaulted the victim to get his partner’s gun.

The victim was treated at a hospital and released.

The two armed suspects got away with two cell phones.

Officials said the black males were wearing all dark clothing and masks. One man was approximately 6’5” and 240 pounds. The other man was 5’7” and may have had dreadlocks.
