COLUMBUS, Ohio — The last undefeated team in the country fell in Columbus.
Ohio State defeated Michigan 56-53 to give the Wolverines their first loss of the season. Ohio State junior forward Deshaun Thomas led all scorers with 20 points. Michigan struggled shooting the ball, making just 38.3-percent from the floor and just 30-percent from three-point range.
The Buckeyes jumped out early on the Wolverines, leading 29-8 with less than seven minutes to go in the first half. Michigan battle back to trail by 12 at the break and tied the game at 46-46 late in the 2nd half on a Glenn Robinson III three-pointer.
The Buckeyes would then score the next six points to take control of the game, but Michigan would battle back again. Sophomore point guard Trey Burke had a shot to tie the game with 17 seconds left, but it rattled around and out.
Michigan falls to 16-1 (3-1, Big Ten) on the season. Ohio State improves to 13-3 (3-1, Big Ten).
