Harrison leads Kent City comeback in season opening win at Comstock Park

Jenna Harrison scored 20 of her game-high 29 points in the second half as the Kent City girls basketball team rallied for a 51-48 win at Comstock Park Tuesday in the season opener for both teams.

Comstock Park jumped out to a 24-9 lead early in the second quarter, but the Eagles scored 13 of the final 15 points in the second quarter to cut the deficit to just four at the break. Kent City senior Kenzie Bowers, who is committed to Illinois State, scored all 8 of her points during that second quarter run.

The Panthers implemented a box-and-one defense on Bowers most of the night.

Comstock Park senior McKenna Bent, who is committed to Saginaw Valley State, scored 7 of her team-high 15 points in the third quarter as the Panthers pushed their lead to 37-30 after 24 minutes.

The Eagles scored 21 points in the fourth quarter, 14 by Harrsion who hit 4 of her 9 threes in the final quarter.

Junior Emily Heintzelman added 14 points for Comstock Park.

Kent City (1-0) will travel to Coopersville (0-1) on Thursday, Comstock Park (0-1) will host Wyoming on Friday night.
