GVSU plans in-person commencement events for Fall 2020 graduates

ALLENDALE, Mich. — Grand Valley State University is planning a “Move the Tassel” and Celebratory Drive event in lieu of a traditional commencement ceremony for Fall 2020 graduates.

The university made the announcement in an email to students Monday.

The celebration will take place Dec. 11 at 7 p.m. with a virtual commencement ceremony that will be streamed on Facebook and YouTube.

Graduates and four guests may attend an in-person event the following day, Dec. 12, in which they will cross the commencement stage and move their tassels to the left.

That event will be held at the Allendale Campus Fieldhouse Arena.

Professional photos will be taken as each graduate crosses the stage while their name is announced, and the event will be livestreamed.

Graduates and their guests can then participate in a celebratory drive through campus.
