VAN BUREN COUNTY, Mich. — A pair of suspects were found hiding underwater at the scene of a Hamilton Township breaking-and-entering and were jailed Sunday morning.

At 4:15 a.m. Sunday, deputies responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle in the 46000 block of West Drive on the southwest side of Lake Of The Woods. The caller said it appeared the vehicle was stuck in the yard and revving its engine outside a home that was vacant.

Van Buren County Sheriff's Department deputies and a Decatur Police Department officer responded to the scene within minutes of the call and located the vehicle stuck in the driveway of a lakeside home. They then found two suspects hiding in the lake channel just behind the house.

The men, ages 27 and 28 and both from Coloma, were ordered out of the water, were evaluated by Van Buren County EMS and were detained.

Further investigation revealed that two nearby sheds had been burglarized and several hundred dollars worth of tools, lawn equipment and fishing equipment had been stolen. All the items had been stashed nearby and were recovered.

The suspects then were arrested and taken to the Van Buren County jail. They will be arraigned in court on Monday.
