DETROIT, Mich. — (WXYZ) — The DTE Conners Creek Power Plant, shuttered more than a decade ago and officially came down Friday.

Watch the video of the implosion here.

The site along the Detroit River was completed in 1915 but was shut down in 2008.

DTE has hired the same demolition crew that brought down the Georgia Dome.

The company says public safety will be its top priority.

"We're going to be installing dust curtains to help kind of contain the dust cloud," said Brian Nuno, DTE Public Affairs. "...we can position in different areas as well as fans to help direct where that dust cloud goes."

According to DTE's website, residents can choose to remain in their homes but are urged to stay away from windows during the demolition.

There was no public viewing for this demolition in order to keep people safe
