BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich. — A 15-year-old girl is in the hospital after being hit by a car Wednesday evening in Niles Township.
State Police say the teen was walking on the sidewalk on 17th Street just south of Fulkerson Avenue when a car going the other direction crossed the center line, and went over the curb. The driver sped off from the scene, leaving the teen with a head injury.
Another driver spotted the suspect driving through a red light a few blocks away. They called police, and followed the car until it parked in front of a home in the city of Niles.
Troopers used that information to arrest a 34-year-old on charges of operating while intoxicated and leaving the scene of a crash.
The 15-year-old hurt in the crash is being treated for a head injury, and possible concussion.
