BIG RAPIDS, Mich. — A woman is dead following an apartment fire at Ferris State University last month.
The fire broke out on Sunday, Jan. 17 on Cardinal Court at Ferris State University, according to the Mecosta County Sheriff’s Office.

We’re told emergency responders found a sole occupant inside the apartment, who has since been identified as 22-year-old Alisha Jaynes. Police say she was taken to Spectrum Health--Butterworth Campus to be treated for smoke inhalation and burn injuries.
Mecosta County police tell us Jaynes encountered a multitude of medical complications linked to injuries sustained during the fire, adding that she was put on life support. We’re told that she died of her injuries on Monday, Feb. 15.
