Police arrest woman for trying to kidnap baby

KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Police have arrested a woman after she allegedly broke into an home, assaulted a baby's mother and tried to leave with the child.

Police officers responded yesterday to a report of a fight at the 1800 block of Humphrey Street, according the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety today.

Officers arrived to a struggle between two subjects over a baby.

They broke up the fight, and checked on the baby, who wasn't injured and was returned to the mother.

After an investigation, police believe a 53-year-old Kalamazoo woman forced her way into the home.

The suspect then allegedly assaulted a female, "grabbed" the baby and walked out of the house "to abduct the child."

The baby's mother tried to stop the suspect, and the struggle started, with the suspect allegedly assaulting the mother several times.

Police arrested the suspect for kidnapping and home invasion.

The case will be forwarded to the Kalamazoo County Prosecutor's Office for review.
