KALAMAZOO, Mich. — A Public Safety Officer tracked down and arrested a man after seeing him open fire at a group of people early Tuesday night.
The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety says the officer was on patrol near James Street and Hays Park Avenue when the suspect began shooting from the middle of the street. The suspect ran, but the officer chased him down. The 18-year-old was arrested, and a loaded gun was seized.
Investigators say the group of people targeted by the shooter were not hurt. The suspect was the only person shot; officers say he shot himself in the leg.
The teen suspect is being held in the county jail on three felony weapons charges.
