Kalamazoo police arrest gunman after six-hour standoff

KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Kalamazoo police responded to calls involving an armed gunman on Wednesday night.

Officers were requested to intervene in the 1800 block of East Main Street when a victim claimed that the suspect pulled out a gun and fired it in their direction.

Officers secured the home where the gunman was barricaded as a search warrant was being processed. A SWAT team was summoned alongside Crisis Negotiations to aid in the situation.

The suspect reportedly refused to leave the home despite contacts from local authorities.

A six-hour standoff ensued before police entered the home and arrested the suspect, a 37-year-old resident of Kalamazoo.

He was later brought to the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Department, where he is being held on weapons and assault charges.
