Calhoun County Sheriff's Office announces first positive COVID-19 case in correctional facilities

CALHOUN, Mich. — One inmate in the Calhoun County Correctional Facility has tested positive for COVID-19 and has been placed into quarantine and is currently being treated by medical staff.

On Saturday, May 9, the Calhoun County Sheriff's Office and Public Health Department were notified that the inmate tested positive for the coronavirus.

The inmate arrived at the jail on Wednesday, May 6, without symptoms.

Per safety protocol currently being followed in the jail, the inmate was placed into quarantine upon admittance and later in the evening developed symptoms, including elevated temperature.

The correctional facility continues to work closely with the Public Health Department to mitigate spread of the virus.
