KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Two teens were hospitalized after shootings that took place in the same area but are unrelated, according to the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety.

A 19-year-old was riding in a vehicle on Douglas Ave. and W. Paterson St. around 12:14 a.m. on Sunday, when he heard gunshots and then realized that he had been shot.

He then checked himself into a nearby ER, where officers were able to speak to him, and he is expected to be ok.

Around 5:09 a.m., officers were called to Douglas Ave. for another shooting, and they found a 15-year-old who had also been wounded by gunfire.

The teen had reportedly been walking nearby when a vehicle drove by and an unknown suspect shot him.

While the Kalamazoo Dept. of Public Safety is still investigating these shootings, anyone with information about them is asked to call the department at 269-488-8911 or Silent Observer at 269-343-2100.
