GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — An 8-year-old from Caledonia is finally having her wish come true to go to Disney World.
Allison Thome had open heart surgery when she was just 11 days old due to a congenital heart defect. Her condition resulted in her arteries being attached abnormally to her heart.
On Monday, Thome learned she would be going to Disney World, thanks to Make-A-Wish Michigan along with Metro Health Hospital. Staff surprised her and her family when they walked into the hospital.
"All I can say is, 'Wow,'" said Doria Thome, Allison's mother. "My heart just exploded with all emotions because our little girl deserves this. At the end of the day, she's been poked and prodded and doctor's appointments. She had open heart surgery at 11 days old. I just want her to know that she is normal and she is just like every other kid out there."
The Thomes will leave on Wednesday.
